I read this in one evening. It was a wonderfully written 'cozy' mystery. The fallacies of the main characters made them interesting. This will not be the last Puzzle Lady mystery I will read!  HMCPL Catalog

The Poisoner's Handbook: Murder and the Birth of Forensic Medicine in Jazz Age New York
Author
Deborah Blum
ISBN
9780143118824
Review
The title is a little convoluted and slightly misleading, but the book is interesting and the story line revolves around New York City's chief medical examiner Charles Norris and toxicologist Alexander Gettler from about 1915 to the mid 1930s, and their pioneering work in forensic toxicology. Each chapter centers on a different poison and, using different cases the medical examiner's office had, how the pathologists and toxicologists developed tests to detect and quantify different poisons and toxins (as well as describing the constellation of effects a particular substance would have) in order to determine cause of death and in some cases convict the suspected poisoners. Not all of the deaths were murders; significant numbers of illnesses and deaths were also due to toxic substances in over-the-counter patent medicines and bootleg liquor (especially during Prohibition). Each chapter deals with a particular poison, including chloroform, wood alcohol (methanol), cyanide, arsenic, mercury, carbon monoxide, radium, thallium, and ethyl alcohol among others.   HMCPL Catalog

I Still Dream of You
Author
Fannie Flagg
Review
This is classic Fannie Flagg. The main character seems to have had the perfect life to others, but she has a life of regrets. She plans to gracefully exit the earth but her plans are continually interrupted. This book makes you think a bit, gives you a bit of nostalgia, but mostly just makes you laugh out loud. It is definitely a fun read.   HMCPL Catalog

Not a bad read. The author's pacing and description are fantastic. She moves the story along with action, very well. However, her main character doesn't become sympathetic until entirely too late in the story and her motivations aren't fall short.  HMCPL Catalog
